Happy Birthday, Maddie

What did you get for your sixth birthday?

I don’t remember what I got for mine (sorry Mum and Dad!) but I do remember that I had an awesome dress up party.  I went as Princess Leia, complete with full side buns.  Jamie Smithson came as a bee, so did Carla.

I also don’t remember specifically which cake I had that year but I can guarantee that I would have taken the Women’s Weekly Birthday Cake Cookbook down from the shelf around the 16th of February (my birthday’s 16 August) to start shortlisting the contenders for for-school-cake, for-family-party-cake and for-friends’-party-cake (yes I would’ve had three, think I’ve mentioned I’m an only child).  And, bless her, my Mum would’ve stayed up nights making all three.

It was Maddie’s sixth birthday on Saturday.

Maddie’s Daddy and Mommy didn’t get to stay up baking cakes for her this year.  But they did have a dedication ceremony for the Maddie James Seaside Learning Centre.

And that’s a pretty phenomenal gift to give your daughter for her birthday.
